The 70 year old tools used for moulding the Bakelite for these general-purpose lamps were found and slightly reworked so as to make it possible to continue producing these practical and beautiful lamps.
They are commonly referred to as cellar lamps and we have decided to stick with the name, even though they can be used for a much wider range of applications.
Hands are more important than machines when it comes to producing these lamps, as the pressing (baking) of the housing alone involves time-consuming manual work. All lamps have a black Bakelite housing and a pressed-glass lampshade with wire guard.

If you are a retail customer in the UK then when we send you your Goods you will also receive a delivery/returns note (as well as your receipt). Full instructions on how to return the Goods to us are on the delivery/returns note. You have 14 days from date of receipt to return Goods to us and do not have to give a reason for doing so. You will have to pay for the return of the Goods. If the entire order is being returned, your refund will include the cost of the original delivery. You can either organize the return yourself (getting proof of postage) or (mainland UK only) we can arrange a collection via our courier. Courier collections arranged by us are charged at £15 per parcel if less than 1.5m in length, or £37 for parcels over 1.5m in length (eg curtain poles).
If you are NOT a retail customer or you are outside of the UK then you will not be able to return goods to us unless they are faulty.
If you receive damaged or faulty Goods then you should contact us to arrange the return within 48 hours of your receipt of the Goods. If we confirm when the Goods arrive back with us that they are damaged or faulty, then you will not be liable for the cost of returning the Goods. You will be offered a replacement or refund.
We regret that we cannot accept returns for Special Order items (unless damaged or faulty). A Special Order item would typically be any item that is not in stock.
We cannot be held responsible for packages lost, delayed or damaged in transit. For your protection if you are returning Goods to us, we recommend that you send your package by Royal Mail Special Delivery.

Terrible design and quality

1) They are not pre-drilled for mounting or conduit access
2) Drilling them due to poor moulding design is very difficult as the mounting points are too thick. I fractured the bakelite on both the mounting points and the conduit collar due to the pressure I had to use
3) The conduit collar doesn't fit 20mm conduit so you have to widen the collar. Further breakage caused
4) The ceramic bulb fittings on two of the units were cracked (but I only noticed after all the dramas with the case mounting, so figured trying to return them would be too hard)
5) The electrical connectors don't fit two 1.5m2 wires so how can you wire these to a typical UK radial circuit ?
All in all very poor, would not recommend to anyone in any circumstances.

Looks good. Smaller bulkhead light takes 60W max. GLS bulb. Lampholder is ceramic but the screw in one of the terminals didn't tighten up against the wire as it should. Light is fitted with an aluminium reflector inside and you are supplied with heat-proof shroud for each incoming wire.

This replaced a tacky version of the something similar, but all plastic. This is much more solid and the Bakelite and glass are of good quality. It's quite small though and will only take a small bulb. B&Q's own and those from our local ironmonger didn't fit but Philips make one small enough (available online from B&Q).
If all the items on your order are in stock, we endeavour to despatch it within 1-2 days on a next day service to mainland UK. Other destinations will have longer transit times.

Please contact us if you would like parts of your order to be despatched as and when they become available. This would attract a separate delivery charge for each delivery.

For Mainland UK (excluding Scottish Highlands) orders for items less than 1.5m in length and over £100 have FREE delivery (excludes radiators, stoves and palletized lighting). Most orders under £100 have a £5 delivery charge (£3 for small items, £7.50 for items over 1 metre, and £15 for items over 1.5m eg curtain poles).
